In the 2020 series the National Bank of Angola kept a single face on its notes, the country’s first president Agostinho Neto (1922–1979), and devoted the backs to Angola’s natural wonders. Neto, a poet and leader of the MPLA, headed the state after independence was proclaimed on 11 November 1975.
The back shows the Serra da Leba mountain range in the south of the country. The denominations from 200 to 2,000 kwanzas are printed on polymer, a plastic substrate that lasts longer than paper.
The new series replaced the 2012 notes with two presidents on the front: from 1 January 2022 the previous series’ notes from 200 to 5,000 kwanzas were no longer accepted as payment.
The 2,000 kwanzas is the highest polymer denomination of the 2020 series; with the Leba range it joins a «mountains on banknotes» set and completes the polymer row in an Angola collection. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
